10 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What do you do, Marly Q?
I help companies, nonprofits, and educational institutions create impactful, engaging events. With over 20 years of experience, I’ve gone from being a burned-out event planner to an in-demand speaker, facilitator, and event expert.
I always joke that the Q stands for Question—because I love that Q. The real story though is that my birth name is Marlene de la Caridad Quincoces (yes, I’m Cuban in case you were wondering). As you can guess, growing up with a name like that was fun as most teachers butchered my last name. One glorious day my 6th grade teacher asked if she could call me “Marly Q”, I immediately said “YES,” and it stuck! In 2017, I changed the name of my business to MARLY Q LLC and made it legal after getting married.
¡Claro que sí! As a first-generation Cuban-American, I’m fluent in English, Spanish, and, thanks to living in Miami, Spanglish too!

In 2012, I gave a college keynote where a student remembered my PARK story and acronym. Six years later, that same student invited me to speak at TEDx. Fun fact: I was three months pregnant and nauseous on stage, I almost didn’t go through with it but it ended up being the talk that launched my paid keynote career. I accidentally discovered my passion for speaking and events in high school leading clubs, planning service projects, and emceeing pep rallies. In college, I started the FIU Relay For Life event, which still runs 20 years later! After burning out as a professional event planner, I launched my own event consulting business in 2008 and now, I speak, facilitate, and coach others on creating impactful events.

I’m a self-proclaimed “serial acronymist.” I love creating acronyms because they simplify complex ideas. One of my favorites (and firsts) is PARK—Perform Acts of Random Kindness—and you’ll hear me use acronyms often in my keynotes to make concepts more memorable.
Absolutely not! Virtual events are here to stay, and I’ve been hosting them since long before Zoom was the norm. Since 2017, I’ve offered Virtual Planning Workshops, and I launched the MANKIND Summit in May 2022, a multi-day virtual challenge focused on mental health and wellness in the workplace.
A kind friend persistently invited me to practice yoga when I was struggling with stress and migraines. I was stubborn, but once I committed it changed my life. I became a certified yoga teacher in 2014 and have since taught over 400 classes on mindfulness and stress reduction, which I now integrate into my events, workshops and retreats.
I felt a strong calling to serve and I took inspired action. In the summer of 2010, I was inspired to create an acronym and share it with others. I shared my “PARK Project” at my 27th birthday party asking people to Perform Acts of Random Kindness (PARK). It became an official 501c3 nonprofit and has since reached thousands of people of all ages worldwide, encouraging them to give back to their communities and create a kinder world-together.
The truth is I am a recovering work-a-holic who sometimes still struggles prioritizing quality time for reading, resting and relaxing! Above all the work I love to do, I’m a happy wife and busy mom of two boys who loves the sun, ocean breeze, and palm trees of South Florida.
